Touring San Francisco On Foot

Well, we are here in San Francisco. Got in about 8pm Saturday. Spent 16 hours on the bikes getting here. Started today at 7am walking to the Alcatraz pier to see if there were any tickets left. I was supposed to get reservations last week, but never got around to it. They were booked up solid for the next three days, so we opted for the bay cruise. It was very good. Cruised around Alcatraz very close so that pictures could be taken and then to the Golden Gate Bridge. Cruised around the rest of the bay for a little bit and then back to the dock. Since there's no place you can park in this town for more than 15 minutes, we walked to Telegraph Hill by way of several steep flights of stairs and went up in the Coit Tower. This gave us a 360 degree look at the city and bay area. San Francisco is very beautiful, but the hills can wear one out quickly.
We then walked to China Town and made like tourists. This place was also very interesting to visit. I found a leather shop that had some nice stuff and wound up buying a black leather jacket
I would guess that we walked about 15 miles today, up and down the hills. I cannot see how the people deal with that every day.
One thing about San Francisco that I have always heard of is the great food. Every place that we dined at was awesome. Guess all that walking was to keep us from getting miserable.
Tomorrow we will be on the road again heading up the coast highway towards Portland, OR. First thing in the morning is to cross the Golden Gate Bridge and get some pics.
